also read this piece which is a lecturer on Ancient History from
Manchester Metropolitan University writing about PTSD as we recognize it
today and how it can’t accurately be applied to soldiers in Antiquity.
Super interesting and thesis worthy stuff.
I
have a lot of thoughts on the matter of trying to apply modern
psychology to historical peoples, but I in the middle on this one. I
agree that modern warfare creates a specific sort of PTSD, really bad
stuff, and that our culture plays into that just as Mr. Crowley says,
but I also think the close camaraderie as a opposed to the isolation
would create it’s own sort of emotional trauma on ancients peoples.
