Jedi Crafts

Don’t talk to me about Obi-Wan knowing how to crochet.

Don’t make me think of Qui-Gon teaching him as a padawan when Obi-Wan is struggling to meditate. Or that Master Yoda taught Qui-Gon after he lost Xanatos and felt detached from the Force.

Don’t even make me consider how useful a survival skill it is for Jedi; being able to mend clothes, make bags or nets or blankets, or being able to attach materials together. That all it really is is a hooked stick and a knowledge of knots.

It’s something productive to do on long journeys. A gift to present to any dignitaries. A present for friends and colleagues.

Don’t think of Qui-Gon patiently teaching Obi-Wan as he loses stitches again and again, and just can’t seem to wrap his head around the turning chain. But he eventually ends up with a satchel-full of mismatched squares (with a few of Qui-Gon’s beautifully delicate ones thrown in), and they spend a long journey back to Coruscant sewing them all together.

And Obi-Wan keeping that blanket for the rest of his life, long after Qui-Gon has fallen, and the Jedi order is no more, and Obi-wan becomes Old Ben Kenobi.

But Tatooine nights are long, and children need clothes, and Luke Skywalker is always bedecked in practical crochetted clothes, although for as long as he can remember he never sees his Aunt or Uncle crochet.

And Senator Organa’s daughter is always dressed in the most beautifully delicate crochet gowns, that some say resemble an old Jedi pattern.
